Softening is a skill, a practice, a philosophy, and a science. A way of living.. known through experience and positive neurophysiological evidence.
The Softening Classes are designed from the breath and body practices used to support labor + birth — the most physiologically and emotionally demanding seasons a body can move through. What emerged is a method rooted in nervous system science, embodied practice, and what we call companionship care.
Designed by DaTiana Guerrero, certified doula, yoga instructor, and pre-med student currently studying Human Systems Engineering at ASU — these classes live at the intersection of the body, the breath, and the science of softening.
Guided breath, meditation + companionship — sweet, slow and held. For any season of life that asks something tender of you, or where you just need something soft.
All bodies. All seasons. You’re invited to bring a companion you’d like to soften with. Space is intimate + limited. May softness find you and you it.

In birth work, “the veil” is the thin in-between of life and death — fragile, delicate, and tender.
In the Softening Class, veils are used as both technology, companionship and remembrance.
You will receive one as a gift — to bring to future classes and most importantly, to take home to live with you.

You’ll receive a pillow and a satin pillowcase. This is also gifted as yours to keep with you to bring to future classes and to have at home. Because who doesn’t love a soft landing, with a little satin on top.

You’re welcome to bring an oversized blanket or comforter. We love a twin size duvet or selves. We love a little cushion here. *and yes that may be counterproductive because we do side eye a yoga mat.

You’re invited to come solo or bring a companion- a partner, friend, parent, babe, etc. Companionship care (co-regulation) is apart of the practice. We see companionship care as a pillar of softness, and slow living.
Space is intimate + limited.

Come as you were already going. Wear your slip dress, your kitten heels, jeans, tight or baggy, a whimsy grunge.
The Softening Class is not a destination you prepare for — it is something that lives with you. You should be able to leave here and go straight to brunch, to your kid’s game, to wherever your day was already taking you.
Softening is not a performance. It is a practice- it lives with you. And it belongs in your real life. *and if you insist on wearing yoga pants, no shame. It’s your world we’re just in it.

The Softening Classes are designed and inspired by birth. And birth is spontaneous — more often than not, life comes unexpectedly and on its own time.
In the spirit of nurturing new mind and body connections, we practice learning to soften with what is already around you. The ground beneath you. The wall beside you. The body of your companion near you. And what we cannot see but can feel — the room itself as your support.
By leaving the yoga mat at home, we open ourselves up to building new neuropathways and give our nervous systems the opportunity to not perform in the ways we’ve grown accustomed to in yogic practice, meditation, and movement.
As a certified yoga instructor, I understand how deep, even sacred our relationship with our yoga mats can be. My hope is that here, you’ll begin building a softened bond with what is available to you always.
