Pregnancy, Birth + Postpartum Classes.
Softening Mamí extends the Softening Class into the specific world of pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum — prep, practice, education, and companionship care, through the lens of doula support and nervous system science.
For the Mamí + Parent
Prep, practice, and education for softening into pregnancy, birth, and postpartum — building your own toolkit for comfort, presence, and care.
For the Companion
Learn how to support — physically, emotionally, and energetically — through birth and beyond. For partners, family, doulas-in-training, or anyone who wants to show up well for someone they love.
-
Imagine moving through pregnancy not in fear but in preparation. Imagine labor supported by someone who has practiced softening with you. Imagine postpartum held rather than survived. That is what this work makes possible. And it is sweeter than you know.
-
This is not just a birthing class. This is a living, embodied practice rooted in nervous system science, doula care, and deep relational intelligence. You will leave not just informed but changed in how you inhabit your body hold the people you love, and depend how people hold you.
-
The Softening Method was designed from the practices used to support labor and birth the most physiologically and emotionally demanding experience a body can move through. What we learned there is that softening is a skill. And those same skills being breath, presence, co-regulation, embodied awareness — belong to every season of pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and beyond.
-
Research consistently shows that continuous support during pregnancy and birth improves outcomes — physically and emotionally. But companionship care doesn’t end at birth. The postpartum season, the grief season, the becoming season — all of them ask for the same thing: someone who knows how to be soft with you. We train that. We practice that. We believe in it completely.

A container for the whole of you.
Pregnancy is one of the most profound transitions a human being can move through. And yet so much of it is navigated— with noise on one side and silence on the other. With so much change and transition we wanted to create a soft landing.
This cohort was designed to meet you exactly in the in-betweens of it all.
Our “Softening Mamí is a meditative, educational, immersive, and embodied experience built for the person who is pregnant and ready to go deeper than what any appointment, book, or well-meaning relative can offer. Some weeks you will be soften solo, with people in your co-hort with you. Other weeks your companions— your partner, your people, your village will be invited in our sessions because this experience goes both ways. The romance, the fear, the tenderness, the becoming — all of it deserves to be witnessed, processed and held together.
What this cohort moves through:
The anatomy of the physical body — what is actually happening, week by week, in language that is honest and accessible and never clinical for the sake of distance.
The neurological, physiological hormonal body — what your nervous system is doing, why it is doing it, and how to soften into it rather than fight it.
Cultural practices across the world — how different communities have always held pregnant people, and what wisdom lives in those traditions that modern culture has quietly discarded.
Your own story — the one that existed before pregnancy, the one forming inside it, and the one waiting on the other side. We will unpack it. We will sit with it. We will not rush past it.
Fear, dreams, resources, and practice — weeks dedicated to the things people think but rarely say out loud. Meditations, reflections, and embodied practices that build a toolkit you will carry long after this cohort ends.
Loneliness is one of the least talked about and most universal experiences of pregnancy and postpartum. This cohort knows that. It was built for it. You will not be alone here — not in the weeks you will not be alone here — not in the weeks you come by yourself, and not in the weeks you bring your people.
This is backed by scientific evidence, professional wisdom, and years of practice in the most intimate and demanding spaces a body can occupy. And it is held with the softness that every person moving through this season deserves. Supporting positive health outcomes and longevity in every area of life.

Softening into Companionship Through Pregnancy, Postpartum
For the people who want to show up — and mean it.
Most people who love someone through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum genuinely want to help. They want to be present. They want to do it right. But wanting to show up and knowing how to are two very different things.
What often arrives first — before the support, before the care — is everything the companion is carrying themselves. Their own stories about birth, life. Their fears. Their biases. Their relationship with navigating discomfort and vulnerability. Acknowledging feelings and practices when you can’t fix but only hold. Their love, which is real.. but sometimes needs nurture that in this particular season. It is our goal to soften things for the person who is experiencing so much change (Mamí) for as in other season the capacity to labor, teach and even tolerate is thin and comes with negative health outcomes.
Often we see this in our work and we want to address and tie a bow int the gap spaces of a person needing things and a person wanting to give things but not knowing how.
As a doula, I witnessed this consistently — the beauty and dedication of a support person who wanted to be everything for the person they loved, and the ways their own unexamined experiences, bias, behavior and actions would show up in the room instead of what they intended- leaving them falling short at a time that is most critical to get things right. I also witnessed what changed when that gap was tended to, closed. When the companion had space to sit with themselves first before trying to hold someone else.
Pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum require more than one person to facilitate care, comfort, humanity, and protection. And that kind of support — the kind that actually holds someone — doesn’t begin at the hospital. It begins long before. In the tender in-betweens. In the ordinary moments that turn out to matter most.
This cohort is for the companion who wants to close that gap. Who wants to show up with confidence, awareness, and the kind of softness that comes from doing the work on themselves first through practice, training and education.
It always begins with self.
-
The research is clear that continuous, informed, and embodied support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum improves outcomes. Physically. Emotionally. Generationally.
And yet the gap between wanting to provide that support and knowing how remains wide.
Softening Mamí was designed to close that gap through education, embodied practice, nervous system science, and the kind of companionship care that meets people exactly where they are. It is a methodology rooted in doula wisdom, neurophysiological evidence, and years of practice in the most demanding and tender spaces a body can occupy.
