There was instances where consent was not practiced, when our medical files were under the wrong name, when we were confused for another Black family by our doctor & my concern of low iron, hemoglobin in test results was bluntly ignored & dismissed. This is why Black Mamas and babies are facing mortality. The stress & exhaustion I experienced from all the labor of fighting for my life and a healthy experience for my baby traumatized me. The pandemic made it difficult to change doctors in the middle of my term. After serval panic attacks & an ocean of tears we found courage to fire our doctor and hire Tru. I had one visit with our midwife & was affirmed that my concerns were indeed life threatening. I felt seen, heard & safe for the first time in 7 months of my pregnancy. When we say protect Black Mama’s & Black Women we have to be prepared to get them out of violent spaces by any means necessary.
